But a funny thing happened about 40 hours into the knitting. I hated the fabric. Not the yarn – I love that! But I hated how tightly I’d chosen to knit this up, and the fabric was too heavy.
So, what are you doing in late September?
I’m keeping my September retreat small, only 16 participants. But if it goes well I may do it again and make it a bit bigger next time!
Making … Love!
I did a good amount of ripping out before I realized that no matter HOW carefully I set my tension, the yarn was just going to pout every now and then. And garter can be unforgiving sometimes…
So it’s going to be one of THOSE days…
For years I had eschewed the humble garter stitch. I prefer stockinette stitch, and I am afraid that I looked down on garter. This was wrong of me, and to make up for it I’m doing an entire KIMONO in garter for Interweave Knits. It’s a modular piece, worked so that it is put together like a puzzle (but with – hopefully – no seams)
Guess What I Just Picked Up?
Knitting Millinery is BACK and it’s BETTER THAN EVER! I revised it, updated all the charts (they’re legible!) and added new photographs. I metric-ed all the measurements and clarified some shaping questions. And the book ended up a bit shorter (huh?) but that’s dandy! When I first created Knitted Millinery it was in a rush…
The Process
The times that I sit and swatch feel like I’m being lazy and not working. I enjoy these days, I love the swatching, and I can’t help but feel a little guilty that I’m having so much fun. Yesterday I re-knit one swatch over 10 times (in various yarns) but another swatch just popped out in 20 minutes, fully formed.
Furiously Working
If I want forgiveness and redemption, then I have to be prepared to give at least that much. Even if someone hasn’t asked (or doesn’t really care) whether I ‘forgive’ them, it’s healthier for me to move to a kinder place and just assume the best.
Four Hats To Cool Heads
I’m finishing up my fourth hat this week, and you might wonder why… It’s not a charity hat per se, although I’ve knitted many of those. It’s not exactly a gift, although I know who the intended recipient is. I’m knitting in the hopes of facilitating a bit of civility in congress. It’s an idea…
While I’m Otherwise Occupied
What I CAN tell you right now is that if you’re interested in my new ONLINE KNITTING MILLINERY CLASS, and are one of the first 50 folks to sign up, I’ll send you a FREE copy of the new, revised Knitting Millinery (a $15 value)
